Homegrown Plants

こんいちわ! Earlier today I took pictures of some of our homegrown plants because I noticed they've fully grown.
Spring onions are essential part of Filipino cuisine and probably the most used crop in household dishes. Whether for flavor or for onion substitute, everyone, myself included, cuts some of these delicate stems that go straight to his/ her cooking. When I make noodles, salad cream or burgers, I take some tips to go along with the serving. It enhances the flavor (and, well, makes the meal a bit healthier).
The picture above shows the purple yam my grandmother planted several weeks ago. Look at how big the tubers had grown. I guess the soil in our backyard is rich enough to make the plants (and trees) develop and bear fruits.

Anyone can grow spring onions at home. It's not climate-sensitive (hmmm I just thought so because we can grow them all year long). Plus it's easy to mature. You can harvest even before any pest try to harm them.

Before, I planted squash, eggplants, pechay and other vegetables (which were great produce). I revel in the joy of harvesting after days of labor. It's wonderful and like what most people say it's indeed therapeutic. This coming rainy season I aim to grow more plants and vegetables. I learned from Betterliving website some great tips in homegrowing vegetables especially herbs (and ornamental plants). Besides proper tending to the plants, there are tips on how to design a good garden. Looking at the photos at that website I felt a sense of comfort and refreshment so I'm motivated to (at least) try glazing pots with bright paints to make the overall look livelier.
Although we don't have that sophisticated plot of ground, I enjoy simple gardening. I must've gotten this trait from the elders in our house who've planted many trees now (by that I meant my grandparents). In our backyard we have various fruit-bearing trees such as guava (my all time favorite), guyabano, chico, calamansi, Indian mango, kamias, coconut, and others namely tomatoes, pepper, ginger, lubi-lubi, gabi, potatoes and melon.

Those purple yams look tremendous! I would love to be able to grow things but we don't have room so I just have to admire the garden downstairs.
